Return Shipment, Zane, River Ice and Egg Decoration

This week brought a return package to us.  Seems like it got wacked by a baseball bat, or someone went postal.  Probably got caught in the return machine.  The customers gave us the wrong zip code.

It happens once in awhile.  Good news is we double box.
2_29_16_2The contents is a beautiful 3 nested bowl set.  Not damaged because of the excellent boxing that we do.  We learned around 30 years ago how to ship pottery properly.  We’ve shipped all over the world, sometimes even creating wooden crates to make it happen.

Here is grandson Zane at five months, enjoying a jumping workout.

The rivers and lakes have this on and off again thing going on with ice this year.  We were driving along the AuSable one morning and Sue wanted some shots of ice on top of the rivers boulders, here are a couple.

2_29_16_7Sue is working on a Ukrainian Easter egg.  She works the old fashion way, using bees wax in a small container, heated over candle heat so that it flows through a little hole, as a drawing instrument.
2_29_16_92_29_16_82_29_16_6Sue has taught workshops and is considering one now, that is why she took out the supplies.  She has done traditional designs and her own designs.  I like them all.

I’m working on getting Giclee prints made of some of my work to have in the gallery this summer.  I have a black and white that is ready and just came out beautiful and I have two prints of oil paintings now.  The oil paintings are printed on canvas and will be framed without glass where as the b&w prints will need glass they are printed on paper.

I’m working on the upstairs bath in the A Frame now, that will be my March house project and consume most of my time.  We’re saving the existing fixtures, just re-tiling and taking out a linen closet and perhaps putting in a washing/dryer stacker.

It will be available for rent, starting this summer, and as we get closer I will post pictures and probably put up it’s own little site.

End of year book keeping is at an end and I’m ready to head to the accountant.  We pay a quarterly tax throughout the year, with the last payment due in April, this year will be no different it looks like.

Hard to believe March is here.  It has been a slow winter, but Sue is getting orders worked on and shipped out.  The mild weather has affected the economy of the north country I believe.  We’ll know more when I hear from people in Lake Placid and what they thought about it.

New Wood Working and Studio Work

We have some new work by a local wood worker, Mike Brewer.  The wine caddy is very nice in walnut, holds a bottle of wine and four glasses, the tray is a great size and being maple will last a long long time.

Here’s a walnut tray with one of Sue’s teapot sets.

Sue has been very busy with orders this winter, she fills them and more just keep coming in.  I’m still renovating the A-Frame and probably will continue for another month or two.

But I decided to stay home during the recent below zero cold snap and I made a bunch of shabori scarves.

Here’s what it looks like when it comes off the bottle from being scrunched up.  From this point I’ll iron and steam it.

Even with all the orders, Sue still gets work of her own out into the gallery.  This very cool shaped deep dish caught my eye.  It’s about 14 inches long.
